City have a new "England's Number One"

May 20 2010

Lincoln City fans will be chanting "England's Number One" to Joe Anyon next season after the goalkeeper signed a two year deal with the Imps. The young goalkeeper kept a respectable 20 clean sheets in 118 games, the last one ironically coming against the Imps in February.

JoeAnyonWith the news that Rob Burch had officially rejected his new contract offer, Sutton moved quickly to bring in Anyon following his release from Port Vale.

The 23 year old was Port Vale's first choice keeper from December 2006 to March 2009, at which point he broke his leg, making his return in Port Vale's comfortable 4-0 win over the Imps in February.

Anyon will become only the third first choice goalkeeper that Lincoln have had during the 21st century, following on from Alan Marriott and Rob Burch, two very hard acts to follow.

Welcome to the cub Joe.
Remember him having a cracking game against us in November 2008.
I reckon Muzzy has had a lot to do with this.
Lets hope he can sort out his problem with crosses.

Here we go again!
Will we ever get the right man?

I know just how Rhys feels Sammy, I was just the same when Glenn Cockerill left I had a signed photo of him. I was really upset especially as he went to the cods too!!!
Sadly its a fact of life following a lower league club your best players always leave.

Good luck to Anyon - he will have something to prove after being released by Port Vale and the fact that he was their player of the year the season before last is a good sign.

Same could be said of the other two.
Only seen him once and looked good that day.

Because he broke his leg last season and never really got back in.

Talking to a Vale fan at work who said they let him go because of his wage demands!! So how much are we paying him?Anyway, good luck Joe. You have a hard act to follow but I think you will be ok. Seen him a few times and always looked a good keeper.

They have signed their Other Keeper Martin on a long contract and maybe couldnt afford another decent wage on a keeper?

The wage you will pay for a second keeper is different to the wage you will pay for a number 1. If he was already on number 1 wages, but had slipped to number 2, then his wages demands may not be over the top.

Sounds like an average league two keeper. I thaught Vale,s keeper was one of the worse we saw at Sincil Bank this year so its a bit of a worry that he couldnt get in the Vale side ahead of him.

He was still coming back from injury when we played against us here.
He played against us here the season before and had a great game, indeed he got their players of the season for 08/09.
If Muzzy can improve his game to the same level he has with Burch I think we will be fine.
A consistently picked defence in front of him will help too as it will give him and them confidence in each other.

My Vale mate says its An-Yon. And I quite rate him for what is worth. Lets see how he does with Muzzy training him. Good luck Joe.
