Carayol : "I'm going to Lincoln to get games"

New signing Mustapha Carayol has said that he is coming to Sincil Bank to get regular first team football. He has revealed in an interview that he was impressed with what Sutton had to say to him, and that he turned down several London based clubs and a League One club, believed to be Southampton, to join the Imps.

Mustapha Carayol has agreed to join the Imps at the beginning of July from Torquay United, although the transfer has hit the blocks due to compensation issues that will more than likely be decided by a tribunial. Several Torquay fans on various message boards were questioning why Carayol would want to go to a side who finished below Torquay last season.

Speaking to the Torquay newspaper, he said "It's got nothing to do with money, and it's not about moving closer to home, I had more clubs interested in the London area, and I could have gone to a League One club as well. But I liked what Lincoln were saying, and Chris Sutton is looking to do big things next season."

The playing squad at Sincil Bank has gone through a lot of changes so far, with three players coming in and numerous players leaving via one method or another. Carayol is one of the three, coming in with Josh O'Keefe and Joe Anyon.

"I opted for first-team football, instead of going to a League One club for more money or not knowing whether I'm going to play every week." Carayol continued. "I loved it at Torquay, and I got on brilliantly with the fans. I want to give big thanks to them, because they were uplifting for me. But it's a time when I want to kick on in my career. I'm not saying that I couldn't do that at Torquay.
