Lincoln City now know the fifteen teams that their Carling Cup opponents will come from. The Imps were the lowest ranked team in the northern section, and potential opponents include Nottingham Forest, Leicester City, Middlesbrough and both Sheffield clubs. At least we won't have to worry about a Somma winner for Leeds as he would be suspended.
The good thing about the Carling Cup is that you know you're guaranteed opposition from higher divisions, which means either a decent gate at home or a trip to a ground considerable higher up the League.
City's potential opponents includes nine teams who have played in the Premiership at some point, whereas other potential opponents include a local(ish) derby against Peterborough, or the first meeting with Huddersfield since that infamous night in May 2004.
Recent years haven't been kind to the Imps in the Carling Cup. The last win came in 2005 when the Imps put five past then Championship Crewe, that set up a thrilling game at Fulham that ended 5-4 to the Premiership side after extra time. Since then City have gone out at the first stage to Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Derby and Barnsley.
The draw will be made on Wednesday at 9:30am.

I could be wrong, but I believe that red cards only ban players for the competition they are gained in. For example, someone get sent off in a League game for us a few years ago and played in the cup game a few days later.
I think the situation you refer to is that some bans don't come into effect immediately. They either have to wait for the Referee's Report or a number of days after the event to allow for the possibility of a challenge. Therefore if games come along in quick succession a player can play in the next one and then not in the following 1,2,3 or whatever.
