City draw Leeds United in Carling Cup

Lincoln City got one of the ties deemed by many City fans to be the best possible as the Imps drew an away tie at Leeds United in the first round of the Carling Cup. It does however virtually rule out the chance of City progressing beyond the first round of the cup this year.

For the third time in four years, City will face a team from Yorkshire in the first round, hoping to avoid the defeats that befell them in their games against Doncaster Rovers in 2007 and Barnsley in 2009.

The clubs haven't met for a long time, but did get quite involved with each other towards the end of last season with the transfer saga of Davide Somma, who looks set to stay at Elland Road after rejecting City's offer. If it wasn't for his red card on the final day of last season against Macclesfield then it is likely he would have played some role in the tie.

The tie of the round sees Conference Champions Stevenage at home to recently relegated Portsmouth. The teams were four divisions apart last season. Other than that there are no ties that really stand out.

Our trip to Elland Road will be in the week commencing August 9th.
