England - Starting Heskey = Win

England progressed to the second round of the World Cup with a much improved, although still quite tense performance against Slovenia. Emile Heskey was dropped and replaced by Jermaine Defoe, whom got on the scoresheet. England will now face the winners of group D on Sunday afternoon.

Despite Gareth Barry's inability to pass to his own team-mates, England progressed into the second round with a far superior performance against Slovenia. With America's 1-0 win over Algeria, they won the group and now England will face any of the teams in Group D, the opponents being decided later on tonight. One of the potential opponents are our old friends, the Germans.

Defoe scored the only goal from a Milner cross, one of the few Milner passes that actually found it's intended passing. Defoe put in the best striking performance out of any of the English strikers at the World Cup so far. It could have been so different though as Barry's constant lapse passing meant the defence were put under unnecessary pressure.
