Sutton hopes for new striker by Monday

Chris Sutton has said in an interview with the BBC that he hopes to have a new striker at the club by Monday, although he has admitted that it looks likely that we'll have to wait a bit longer. City have just four strikers at the club, although Sutton has already told Chris Fagan that he's free to leave the club.

The only new striker so far is Drewe Broughton. He had a rather unsuccessful loan spell at City last season, but obviously did enough to convince Sutton to bring him in permanently. He failed to score in his 8 loan games, although he should fit in with Chris Fagan, Andy Hutchinson and Nathan Adams, all of whom have had spells in the team and never really looked like being good enough to be a first team regular.

"I'd like to bring another one in before Monday although it looks unlikely to happen," he told the BBC. "But we'll be trying through the loan market as well. We want options and players who can score goals, excite the fans and more importantly win games."

City have been linked with several new strikers, but with Somma staying at Leeds and Purcell looking likely to join Hereford, the Imps have been forced to look towards Barnet's John O'Flynn, as well as Leon Constantine and Alan Connell.

Connell has a habit of scoring past the Imps, having found the net against City for Bournemouth, Torquay and Hereford, whereas Constantine was the striker that turned Southend from a team who struggled against the drop into a team that got promoted (then Freddy Eastwood came along and took all the credit).
