City to be part of Accrington experiment

Lincoln City's trip to Accrington in September has been moved to help Accrington in an experiment. The Lancashire club are wanting to raise much needed funds and having had good crowds against Darlington and Crewe last season, they're hoping that they will see a similar trend for their game against the Imps.

The Imps have a reasonable record at Accrington Stanley, winning 2 of the four played, drawing and losing the other two. Last season's defeat on the second weekend was the beginning of Jackson's end last season. Almost ironically, Darren Kempson scored the winners in both games last season....the second of which being an own goal to give the Imps a much needed win.

City were due to travel to Stanley on September 18th but now that game has been brought forward to the night before. The reason being that Accrington's much published financial issues last season was eased due to two impressive gates on Friday nights last season. However, with one of those being a sentimental fixture (fans turning up from other clubs to help them raise money against Darlo) and one was a local(ish) Derby with Crewe.

A fixture against Lincoln is a realistically good measure for Accrington's experiment. We're not a local derby meaning there won't be a lot in the away end and it won't be sentimental, so Accrington will get a true idea of how many fans they can get if Friday night games became a regular thing.
