O'Flynn to "make decision next week"

By Nathan Jackson
July 5 2010

Lincoln City will find out for definite whether they will be signing John O'Flynn or not next week. The striker has been offered a deal by the Imps but according to sources in Barnet, has been keen to sign a new deal at Underhill, whereas Gillingham are also interested.

Speaking to Barnet's official website, Mark Stimson confirmed that John O'Flynn will make his final decision next week. "He (O'Flynn) said that he has a few other options, including clubs a division above, and would make his decision in a week."

Lincoln are one of only two clubs to confirm their interest in the striker to the media, the other being Gillingham. However, Barnet remain confident that their star-striker will stay with them, although Gillingham will also be confident given that Ian Hendon, O'Flynn's former manager, is currently the assistant manager at Priestfield.

If O'Flynn does reject the Imps, it would mean that out of all of his initial targets, Chris Sutton will have only signed Drewe Broughton.

I'd imagine the only person happy that all these strikers are rejecting us is Fagan. He might get a game now.

Good Luck, Mr Gorsky

Think its almost certain McCallum will be a regular upfront now but he did get a few last season so all is not lost yet.
I would like to see Fagan given another go especially with Borughton as his battering ram.
Looks the loan market again for a prem youngster, o well.

so the reality is that Lincoln won't splash the cash for a proven goalscorer, well done BD.

Fagan is not good enough for Lincoln Moorlands.

Its mixed emotions from me, i am dissapointed that we cant compete with demands, but judging by what his demands are rumoured to be, i am glad we stood out ground.

No I don't , heard him say though that cash was going to be made available for a Marquee signing and that we were going to follow Scunthorpes blueprint.

Marquee signing.

Could that mean Gary Birch is coming back?

He got big enough to wear a Tent and I'm sure he would write whatever BD wanted on it.

I suppose if you're going to make a big mistake as chairman you might as well get it over done with early doors hey??!!!
God I bet he regrets saying it now!

It's just by the way you talk about him it looks like you know him.
The thing is today people expect instant results, if we were going to follow the Scunny blueprint then it will obviously take time to put the blocks in place and the resulting actions to filter through.

I have been shown enough to know that the club is well run the the thing we lack is success on the pitch.
Everything conected to City is changing for the better becoming more proffessional.

The internet has many advantages but the disadvantages are laughable who will forget Burch throwing his gloves into the fans and saying i'm off,the next day the talk is he has quit.
The reality was he just said goodbye or the recent one on Vitals that certain people were getting free travel on red imps again rumour or the worst one that our CEO was somehow doing some wrong and not commited to the club.
That one was designed to cause max damage and all internet bs.

Good point that helgy everyone always seems to want things straightaway not just in football but in live in general, hence the credit crunch etc.
I quite impressed with sigings so far and today's paper it says that 6 more players will be joining us including 4 long term loans.
I think long term loans are a good way forward for us and clubs in general at our level its a win win for me.

There are problems with long-term loans and it depends on how good they are and how long the loan is for.

I would take 11 Lichaj's on 12 months contracts, but when he left after 3 months Anderson had to come in and adjust to Full Time football and his first game was against Bolton. I don't have any problem with Anderson, but I would have prefered he had been part of the squad for longer before we had to throw him in at the deep end.

I liked Herd, Saunders and Baker (for the last 3 months of his spell), but they were only short term fixes and stopped us developing the nucleus of a team for this year. I don't want to see the same for next year.

I would like to see at least 1, if not 2, of any loans here for the season.

Agree with Cherry, although it'd be difficult to re-build the squad we have very quickly.

Rightly or wrongly, I'm expecting half the team to be built this pre-season, supplemented by loan signings, with the other half of it next season, probably with less loan signings, if that makes sense? We've got some guys on two year deals and others on 1 years.

I know it doesn't quite work like that, but hopefully you get what I mean!

I think loan signings is the only way we have a squad of a decent side.
As I think most the prem loan sigings we had had their wages paid for by the parent club.
I trust CS when it comes to loans, the majority of the prem kids he brought were decent.

Instant results? Helgy, now come on, how long ago was SW 'Championship' blueprint??

Are you seriously trying to tell me that the current board/Trust etc haven't had time....

Next one please.

Bob Dorian i think had nothing to do with the championship thing, everything needs to evolve or ends up going backwards.
The club is run right with a hell of a commercial department in place.
The trust/board are changing but things take time.
I'd prefer a good old Lincoln lad like Bob Dorian to some one who suddenly nails his colours to the mast.
Things are changing just because the nature of it isnt blasted over the net doesn't mean nothings is happening.

All fans have to realise we all need to work together and put the effort in ,after allwe all profess to want our team to progress so it's time the fans got involved a bit more.

I never said it was BD, if you read my post it said SW.

I will take your word for the merits of the CD, but revenue wise we aren't competing are we?

In my opinion the trust/board have had ample time to move us forward and it cannot be argued, we have gone backwards, that is a fact.

Suppose not competing as some as we only spend the money that we have.

We have not gone backwards as we have remained a L2 team so in effect we have just been treading water.

The trust are changing for the better and all the fans will be moving forward together as one.
We have no choice but to do that we either fail or succeed as one not splintered all over the place.

The Spalding supporters are back and hopefully more will join in and create their own exile groups.
All with one aim to push the club forward and become a true community club with all the fans buying shares is the way forward for investment being as we have no one but ourselfs to rely on.

The 'Championship' comment from SW was to do with facilites.

Not actually playing there.

He changed it after he originally said it, and to my knowledge our facilities aren't as good as, what , 95% of the championship? Please don't tell me you believe we have as good facilities as Cardiff, Swansea, Doncaster, Preston, Burnley, Sheff Utd, Leeds, Norwich, Hull, Forest, Need I go on,. so either way it ain't happened.

And trod water?? By my reckoning we keep getting lower in the L2 table... Or don't we.

Wouldn't have a clue how our training facilities like compared to other clubs.
Another case of chairman opening his gob when really he shouldn't.
Its a lot better than we had before!

In the end Steff did deliver good training facilities which are of a higher standard than most L1 L2 clubs,he did ok in that respect.
At the end of the day we are a small well run L2 club.
No complaints from me apart from the catering which should be brought back in house from the awfulk stuff thats served up and the burning desire for a promotion from this league.

The training facilities are very good and alot of players we have had on loan from bigger clubs have complimented them... we have great training facilities, financially we are holding our own, so slowly the pieces are fitting to our march up through the leagues smiling smiley

They are good training facilities, but lets not get carried away, they are not that good. And Helgy again you avoid what SW said in that we would have championship facilities, David I can't believe for one minute you think we have facilities compared to the clubs I mentioned.

Sammy I know we have disagreed in the past but can you give me any reason to suggest we are going to march up the leagues, I hope you are right.

Finally Helgy I 100% agree we are a lower end L2 club, but in my opinion we shouldn't be.

Sorry NS SW nothing to do with me what he's says and does has no relevance with me.
To be fair you could say that they were good enough for the championship.
I think we will always be a lower L2 side ,that unless we get a swathe of talented youths that come through together but we tend to sell them off as some as any sign of talent shows.
Or we get a good squad together but thats a once in twenty years thing.
So same old same for me lower L2 side unless something radical happens.
