Imps survive massive Staines test

Lincoln City's pre-seaspon started with a 2-1 win at Staines Town. The non-leaguers had taken the lead and at times did look like running away with it, however, goals from Scott Anson and Gavin McCallum gave City the win.

It was a good work out for the Imps against a resolute Staines side and it appeared as though City were underestimating their opponents when Scott Taylor pounced on a tap in following his team-mate hitting the bar from the edge of the area. Staines would waste a few more chances before Scott Anson pounced, well I say pounced, what I mean is that a defender passed the ball straight to him and he bundled it in off of a defender.

The second half saw City come into it more. City started dominating and took the lead when McCallum taped in a Keltie free kick. Drewe Broughton almost scored several own goals but the Imps came closest to scoring the game's fourth goal through McCallum and Remy Lauret up front.

Five trialists were playing for the Imps and the three from the Island of Reunion had decent games, especially the Nani-lookalike on the right wing. He reminded me a lot of Hughton and out of the three, looked the most promising.

City's next friendly is next Friday against Walton Casuals.
