Carayol joins exclusive club

Mustapha Carayol joined a rare club with his goal on Saturday. His 52nd minute equaliser meant that he had scored on his first team debut, something only nine other Imps have managed since the turn of the century.
Mustapha Carayol's impressive strike meant that the Imps went level with Rotherham, although City did eventually go on to lose. In doing so he became the first player since Davide Somma to achieve the feat of scoring on his debut. Somma had hit home in the second half against Crewe in February.
Somma's effort had been the first since a close range effort from Anthony Elding against Brentford in the 2008/9 season, coming just four months after Adrian Patulea scored the second in City's 2-0 win over Barnet, their first win of the season.
That had been the first since the opening day of the 2006/7 season when Adie Moses scored his one and only goal for the Imps. A year earlier Gary Birch had also scored on his first appearance against Northampton. Martin Gritton and Jamie Forrester had scored on their debuts in between the goals of Birch and Moses.
A cracker from Westcarr on his debut against Bury in 2005 secured victory and the had been the first since August 2002, when Simon Weaver scored the first goal of City's memorable 2002/3 season.
