Imps given lesson by Leeds

Lincoln City will have to wait another year to get a 2nd round game in the Carling Cup after being comprehensively beaten by a strong Leeds side. City were behind as early as the first minute and it didn't take long before Leeds made it 2-0. It became three before half time, but at least the Imps produced a better second half.
It was a warm evening in Elland Road as the Imps donned their new third kit for the first time. Scott Kerr, a self-professed Leeds fan, gave the ball away within the first minute and that was the last time City touched the ball before it was in the net. Becchio played the ball to Sanchez and he chipped it across the box to Howson, he hit it first time past Anyon.
Carayol almost equalised straight away for the Imps but Leeds quickly made it 2-0 as Becchio latched onto a Watt pass to prod it past Anyon. It was the second time under Sutton that that Imps have gone two goals down within the first ten minutes. The game was effectively over as a contest at this point.
Watt and Becchio both has chances for the hosts, but Anyon denied both with fine saves. Bradley Johnson tried his luck from long rang before Howson also fired wide. The inevitable third came after 30 minutes when Sam headed in a Paul Connolly cross.
City did force a corner on the brink of half time, but that was as close as the Imps got since the early Carayol effort.
Former Leeds man Jamie Clapham made his City debut, replacing Joe Anderson at half time. Much like the Rotherham game, City did enjoy a better second half and it started with O'Keefe being flagged offside from a Green cross. Carayol blazed over but despite reasonable possession, City weren't creating many chances. This saw the emergence of Delroy Facey, making his first appearance since rejoining the club, he replaced McCallum.
Leeds made a few substitutions themselves as Grella and White came on for Becchio and Johnson. Carayol forced Schmeichel into a save, but despite their attacking intent, City were soon 4-0 down as Sam won a penalty, with Kilkenny scoring from the spot.
City had one or two other efforts but never really looked like scoring and went out at the first round stage for the fifth season in a row.

Its just basic stuff you would be telling under 12's. No confidence at the back at all, Anderson and Swaibu looked nervous and lacking in confidence and I have never been a big fan of Green who ball watches and gets caught out of position. Anyon made some good saves and Clapham tightened things up on the left when he came on but by then I had the feeling Leeds had stepped off the Gas.
First 45 mins I sat there embarrassed by those jokers representing us, good job they took the foot off the pedal after the break isn't it?
