Ex-Imp Horsfield in charge at Port Vale

Former Imp Geoff Horsfield has been placed in caretaker charge of Port Vale after they lost Micky Adams to Sheffield United. Horsfield has been on the Port Vale coaching staff since joining them in the summer of 2009 after being released by Lincoln.

Micky Adams has been appointed as the new manager of Sheffield United following Gary Speed's decision to manage the Welsh national side. Adams had turned Port Vale into a team who were many people's pre-season favourites for the title and they have spent the whole season up at the top of the table, although Adams leaves them on a two game losing streak.

Horsfield, a former Lincoln City striker, has been placed in temporary charge of the Valiants along with Mark Grew. Whether both are still in charge when Port Vale visit Sincil Bank in four weeks is another matter, although given how long it normally takes to appoint managers, the new manager could easily take charge of his first game for Vale against the Imps.
