Hughton's potential Newport move falls through

Lincoln City's Cian Hughton won't be joining Newport County on loan after the Welsh club confirmed they were no longer continuing interest in the Imps man. Hughton was believed to be close to securing a move to the Playoff-chasing side, but now looks set to continue viewing Imps games from the stand.

Hughton has been out of Lincoln's first team for some time now, only making occasional appearances since Steve Tilson became Lincoln manager in October. Cian has suffered a tremendous fall from grace after impressing last season, but he has since been replaced by various other players, and wasn't even on the bench for the game against Port Vale.

The Lincolnshire Echo revealed earlier in the week that he was the subject of a potential loan move to Blue Square Premier side Newport County, but the deal has fallen through and it was confirmed in today's South Wales Argus that the loan deal will not be happening.

"“We did talk about him (Hughton), but then we signed Michael Burns, so there is nothing in it now,” Newport boss Tim Harris told the Argus.

With Steve Tilson seemingly doing a big overhaul of the club's playing staff, it appears unlikely that Hughton will be at the club after his contract expires in the summer.

I always thought the lad had potential, especially as a wide midfielder. Then we signed Jarrett and Carayol, which showed Cian up a little. I thought then about the right back position, but realised that he is a little lightweight there.

A good squad player, coming on as a sub is all we can expect of him really. Shame, because I actually do like him.

Hughton mainly only got into the squad because of the injury to Green, and he is better than Green, however, as you say Posh if you were to do the best XI that we have at the moment, he wouldn't even be on the bench.

Good Luck, Mr Gorsky
