Former Imp joins Newport

Former Lincoln striker Steven Lennon has joined Blue Square Premier side Newport County. The striker has spent time in Ireland after controversy regarding a contract offer from Lincoln after a loan spell from Rangers last season.

Lennon joined City almost exactly a year ago in a bid to improve City's dismal goalscoring record and despite the youngster's best efforts, he didn't score the goals that were hoped, although he did end the season with four goals for City and was offered a permanent contract. This is where the story gets interesting.

The Scot initially went on holiday with several other Imps and whilst he was gone, there seemed to be heavy confusion about whether he was going to sign the contract. He and Brian Gilmour claimed that Sutton started ignoring all their phone calls with regards to signing the deal, but Sutton claimed he never received the phone calls. It does finally appear that the issue has become clear as Newport's official website is reporting that Lennon declined the contract to win his place in the Rangers first team....he was released several weeks later and has been in the Irish Leagues with Dundalk since.

He has now penned a deal with Newport County in the Blue Square Premier League.
