Tilson delighted with a team victory

Steve Tilson was delighted with Lincoln's sixth win in seven games, especially as it came just four days after the Imps were well beaten at home by Shrewsbury. It was also a third clean sheet in four games and Tilson couldn't have been happier with the display of the team.

The 2-0 win over Morecambe secured City's second double of the season and our first ever one over the Shrimps, not bad considering they beat the Imps quite comfortably twice last season. The victory meant that City moved up to thirteenth, Lincoln's highest position since a 2-0 win at Bradford in August last season moved us up to seventh, and Tilson couldn't be happier with the team effort.

"It wasn't a very good game to watch, but everyone played their part. They threw a lot of balls into the box and we had to defend with our lives at times," Tilson told Radio Lincolnshire. "It's always nice to win at home and to keep a clean sheet but I'm wary that we've played a lot of games in a short space of time and we are picking up injuries because of that."

City's win came from the goals scored by Ashley Grimes, the on-loan striker scoring in his third home game in a row and the fifth time in the six home games this calendar years. On a day when Wayne Rooney grabbed the headlines for a brilliant goal, Ashley Grimes' second would have raved about had it been at the top level.

"Ashley's second goal was different class, it was a brilliant finish. There are probably Premier League players who can't do that and 11 goals is a decent return."

Fortunately the team isn't overly reliant on Grimes as the other players are popping up with goals every now and then, and it was the first game since the game against Port Vale two weeks ago that his goals won the game, with City securing two wins in the three games since then. Tilson acknowledged the team effort, especially that of the defence.

"Everybody played their part, Trevor Carson in goal made two or three good saves and Ashley's second goal was fantastic, but the rest of the lads kept them out. You could say it was Ashley's goal which won us the game but everybody played their part from the keeper right through to Delroy Facey up front."
