Tilson would love to offer Grimes a permanent deal

Lincoln City manager Steve Tilson has admitted that he would love to tempt to lure Ashley Grimes to sign on a permanent deal at Sincil Bank. The Millwall striker has been in fine score, scoring 11 games in 14 starts for the club since joining at the end of October.

Ashley Grimes, Lincoln City Tilson has a history of bringing in quality strikers to the clubs he managed. At Southend he bought Freddy Eastwood, Gary Hooper and various others into their first team, most now play at a high standard of football, Hooper on the other hand plays in the Scottish Premier League. His acquisition of Grimes on loan from Millwall has gone down exceedingly well with Imps fans, some even comparing him to Davide Somma, who's goals saved City from relegation last season.

With Grimes scoring 11 goals in 16 appearances for the club, Tilson is keen to bring him to Sincil Bank on a permanent basis.

"Ashley has scored 11 goals in 14 starts, which is brilliant and he is a great lad that is very intelligent and knows how to finish," Tilson told Sky Sports. He has got a good partnership going up front with Delroy Facey and they complement each other very well, as Grimes feeds off the target man in Facey."

Since coming into the club, nine of Grimes' eleven goals have been in the League and those goals have gained City nine points, including a hatrick at Stockport, which made him the first man to score a hatrick for City since October 2006. The bad side of all of these goals though is that Grimes is well known to other teams now, many with considerably better financial situations that the Imps.

"I'd love to take Ashley on a permanent basis and the football club would like nothing better, but we will have to see what happens for the rest of this season first I think. Grimesy has just got to keep doing what he has been doing recently, which is scoring goals, and if he keeps doing that then it would be difficult for a League Two team to keep him."

Nice story, Nathan. However, Grimes has actually scored nine league goals, not eight, plus two in the FA Cup.

Except for the fact that he is a northern lad, coming from Manchester.
