Lucky Lincoln come from 2 down to get a point

Lincoln City can count themselves fortunate to have gained their first ever away point against Aldershot Town. City were 2-0 down in one of the worst performances since Sutton took over, but a goal just after the hour from O'Keefe and a late Grimes effort secured City an unexpected point.

Gavin McCallum shot over within the first two minutes as City looked for a quick goal as they aimed for a seventh win in eight. McCallum also took two corners that came to nothing before a brilliant Danny Hone interception denied Aldershot's Wade Small a run on goal. Peter Vincenti shot straight at Carson on the tenth minute before Aldershot took the lead just after the quarter of an hour mark. A corner was half cleared by City and when the ball was played back in, Josh O'Keefe handballed and the referee awarded a penalty. Anthony Charles slotted home the spot kick.

Vincenti was booked for a push on Hone before Facey unleashed a wild shot into the crowd from the edge of the 18 yard box. Jones was booked for a foul on Watts as the game went very quiet with neither side managing to hit the target again before half time.

City didn't start the second half well and within 2 minutes of the restart they found themselves 2-0 down. Former Lincoln United man Alex Rodman ran into the box following a ball from Small and he his a good shot from the narrow angle past Carson and it appeared to be game over for City. Rodman almost made it 3-0 a few minutes later but his effort from 25 yards went well over.

The Imps were denied a penalty for handball before Fuseini was booked. Grimes, who had been very quiet up until this point, had his first shot on the hour mark when he his a curling effort hat went for the corner that came to nothing. City didn't have to wait long to get back into the game and good link up play between McCallum, Grimes and Clapham saw the latter place a cross into the box and O'Keefe headed home for his third goal for the Imps.

Carayol replaced Fuseini for City before Sills and Halls replaced Vincenti and Hylton for the hosts. Grimes hit a curling effort that was well saved by Ruiz before Facey went off for Hutchinson and Paul Green limped off, being replaced by Cian Hughton.

Hutchinson was quickly involved and won a corner with five minutes left, a scramble ensued before Ashley Grimes smashed home from close range to bring City level. Grimes headed wide just minutes later to end the game, but City will certainly be pleased to come away from a game with a point when the performance didn't warrant anything.
