Tuesday night results work in City's favour

Tuesday night's fixtures in League Two generally went the way that most City fans would have been satisfied with. Accrington and Macclesfield were the only sides below the Imps to secure victories, but most importantly both Barnet and Burton lost, meaning City still have a comfortable gap over the group at the bottom.---

Accrington moved above the Imps in the table and up to 14th with a win over Crewe. They initially went behind but goals from Bennett, Craney and McConville secured a 3-2 win, Artell got the other for Crewe. Stanley travel to Sincil Bank next Saturday hoping to secure their first ever away points at Lincoln, Stanley have only scored three times against City in the previous four meetings at Sincil Bank.

The only other winners below the Imps were a Macclesfield side who, much like Lincoln, seen to have been re-energised by scoring four goals at Stockport. Their second win in four days came over Morecambe through goals through Hamsaw and McCready (own goal), it moves them into a group of teams where 14th placed Accrington and 21st placed Bradford, who lost 1-0 at home to Chesterfield, are separated by just five points.

Burton however are struggling to take advantage of their numerous games in hand by suffering a 4-1 mauling at Wycombe, Burton finding themselves 4-0 down just after the hour mark and although they have numerous games in hand, the large amount of games they have in a short space of time could easily backfire against them with exhaustion. They do remain two points ahead of bottom placed Barnet, who host the Imps on Saturday. They lost 2-1 at nearby Southend.

Elsewhere Hereford and Northampton drew 1-1, Cheltenham scored a 94th minute equaliser to take a 2-2 draw at home to Torquay after being 2-0 down with just over 10 minutes to go. Finally, Stevenage won 3-1 at Port Vale.
