Ex Lincoln striker Martin Gritton looks set for an unlikely return to the Football League after spending most of the last week on trial at League One Yeovil. The striker had only recently joined Chester FC last month but looks set to move up a whopping five divisions to Huish Park.

MartinGrittonGritton, currently at Evostik First Division North side Chester, has been on trial at Yeovil Town in the last week.

"It was happening (regardless of Sam Williams' injury) anyway. I'm speaking to Martin on Monday," Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton told Radio Somerset and he appears to be bringing Gritton in for experience, especially after an injury to Sam Williams.

"You know with Alex Russell the way that he came on and affected the game in a positive way today as well, it shows you what that kind of experience does at this stage of the season. They've rested up well, as they haven't had much football and we're coming into a time when we're going to need them. So I'm speaking to Martin on Monday and we'll see what unfolds."

At 32, Gritton has played in League Two for Plymouth, Torquay (twice), Grimsby, Lincoln, Mansfield, Macclesfield and Chesterfield before his move to Chester. It will also be a return to Huish Park for Gritton, having a loan spell that ended almost exactly ten years ago, joining them on loan from Plymouth between February 28th and March 28th in 2001. Gritton has only ever spent four months playing above League One.

Yeovil may need that experience at the end of the season as they are having another difficult season in League One, currently sitting just two points above the drop zone, although they do have games in hand over all the teams below them in the division, however, no-one in League One has picked up fewer points at home than Yeovil, with the Glovers only gaining nineteen points on home turf, on the flip side no-one in the bottom half has picked up as many points on the road as Yeovil.
