Local rivals sack manager, Crawley two days from promotion?

It's not been the best weekend for several teams at the bottom of League One. Notts County have sacked Paul Ince after a 2-0 defeat to Oldham, whereas Swindon Town and Plymouth edged ever closer to League Two. Meanwhile, Crawley continue to run away with the Blue Square division and Fleetwood re-enter the top five.

Paul Ince has left Notts County after just five months. It keeps up Ince's record of never being at one club for more than one season at a club. He had success in League Two, keeping Macclesfield up....just....in 2006/7 before winning the division with MK Dons a year later, although he title winning squad was mosstly made up of the squad compiled by the previous manager.

He moved onto Blackburn Rovers but was sacked after 21 games. It was claimed that this was down to racism, however, the people who claim this ignore that he lost 11 of those 21 games in charge, a manager of any colour is going to be under pressure with a run like that. He was out of football for a few months after that before returning to MK Dons, leaving them because they wouldn't give him funds and now he has left Notts County after five straight defeats, that last of which came against Oldham on Saturday to leave last year's League Two Champions just two points above the drop zone.

Below them in the relegation zone are two more former League Two Champions, 2001/2's Plymouth and 2006/7's Walsall. Neither played at the weekend and both will have seen Bristol Rovers' surprise win over 2004/5's League Two winners Yeovil Town. Swindon also managed not to lose for a change, although they stretch their winless run to eighteen games.

Dagenham lost but have games in hand over the bottom teams, as do Tranmere, who also lost. Sheffield Wednesday recorded a rare victory to give them a seven point cushion over the bottom four.

Meanwhile, two divisions lower and Crawley are two wins away from guaranteeing promotion. One more win would see no-one other than Luton able to catch them, however, even if Luton win all their remaining 8 games it would put them on 95 points, Crawley are on 90. Infact, by this time next week Crawley could be a League Two team, they face York on Tuesday and Tamworth on Saturday, win both and they're definitely up, alternatively they could be promoted as early as Tuesday if they beat York and Luton lose to Kettering.

Meanwhile, Wrexham continue to be the Playoff places despite being in poor form. They lose 2-0 at home to Hayes and Yeading whilst Luton and Kidderminster drew 3-3 at Kenilworth Road, the draw costly for the latter due to Fleetwood's win over Tamworth. Fleetwood moved up into the Playoff places with five games remaining, although both Kidderminster and York have games in hand.

Wimbledon complete the four Playoff places in second place and won 2-0 against Barrow.
