Inept & Heartless rubbish - Just another Saturday at Sincil

Lincoln City put on yet another passionless and inept performance to make it five defeats in a row and bring the Imps truly back into the relegation battle. Gillingham continued to push for promotion and the 4-0 win at Sincil Bank helps their cause. 

The Imps actually started well in the match and were causing the promotion chasers some problems early on but there was only one realistic chance on goal as Howell headed straight at Julian from close range. It would prove to be the only time during the entire match that City would put any sort of pressure on their visitors.

After the early pressure in front of Gillingham's goal, the Gills took it down the end and only a good save from Parish saved the Imps from falling behind as he parried a McDonald effort out. Parish forced a header over the net from Akinfenwa before Kelly needlessly gave away a corner, it was played into the box and ex-Imp Josh Gowling sent a firm header into the net.

Howell proded a shot well wide of the target from the edge of the box before McCallum almost scored before it was deflected well wide. McDonald blazed well over at the other end before the clown known as Julian Kelly gave away the ball badly 20 yards out and Barcham sent the ball in for McDonald to pop a header beyond Parish and into the net. That goal ended the first half.

A corner for GIllingham at the start of the second half saw a strange decision as it was floated in, heads collided and both a Lincoln player and Gillingham player required treatment before Gillingham were given the ball back....even though City had the ball went the play was stopped.

The second half was generally slow but when Fuseini characteristically gave the ball away when not under pressure, McDonald easily made his way past the Imps defence without so much as a tackle blocking his way, he hit a shot across goal and despite it heading wide Danny Hone smashed it into his own net to give Gillingham a 3-0 lead.

Drewe Broughton and Tom Kilbey replaced Hutchinson and O'Keefe for the Imps but it wasn't long before it was 4-0 as Kelly was easily beaten again with Barcham providing the ball for Akinfenwa to make it four.

Ashley Grimes then got himself suspended for two games thanks to gaining his 10th yellow card of the season through a foul on Lawrence. Neither side forced any more decent chances as City slipped to a fifth straight defeat.
