Burton continue to waste games in hand

Lincoln City's hopes of surviving relegation took a boost on Tuesday night as Burton Albion wasted yet another game in hand to remain outside of the relegation zone on goal difference. Maybe people were saying that Burton were in a false position because of their games in hand, but that position doesn't look false anymore.

At one point Burton had up to eight games in hand on the teams below them and despite on occasions entering the relegation zone, no-one took them seriously as relegation candidates, but that certainly can't be said anymore. There's a saying in football that it's better to have points on the board than games in hand and that is certainly true of the Brewers, who have a good chance of breaking the record for quickest ever return to the Conference, with no-one since automatic promotion came in in the late 1980s, no-one has found themselves back in the non-League after just two seasons.

The 1-0 defeat at Bury marked their fifth defeat in seven games and ever since beating Middlesbrough in the FA CUp in January, they've only won four times in the League and have never progressed up the League in the way that most anticipated that they would do.

It was always going to happen with that many games that close together and the fact the last time they only played once in a week wsa way back in the first week of the season tells it's own story.

If Barnet do continue their upturn in form, despite the departure of Martin Allen, there's no doubt Burton will become the favourites to join seemingly doomed Stockport in the Blue Square next season. Despite only facing two promotion challengers from now until the end of the season, nothing suggests that Burton can recover given their form for most of the season.

2 Players sent off for Bury should mean they miss the game against us so more good news.

Including Sodje, who has been a very, very big thorn in our side down the years.

Good Luck, Mr Gorsky
