Ex-Imp Ashley Grimes released by Millwall

Ashley Grimes has been released from his contract at Millwall following his loan spell at Sincil Bank. Grimes scored 17 goals for the Imps but was unable to secure the survival that everyone hoped he would. Even if the Imps had stayed up then it would still be unlikely he would have joined City permanently.

Grimes joined in October on loan from Millwall and went on to score 17 goals in a memorable season on a personal level. His goals had appeared to save the Imps but only three goals since the beginning of March didn't help City's cause as the club were relegated. Grimes had postponed that with his goals.

It had been hoped he would join the Imps on a permanent basis but hopes of that were dashed a few weeks ago when he told Sky Sports he had no interest in playing in League Two next season, so the chances of him playing in the Blue Square Premier next season are exceptionally slim.

For what it's worth Ashley, thank you for your efforts and goals, without you we would have been down a long time ago.

Yes he scored 17 goals but without someone getting up there to feed him he wasn't very good, as it proved when Facey got injured

He was slow across or up & down the pitch whereas a good striker needs to also have a little bit of speed

He was never likely to get hurt as he very rarely made a tackle and also his attitude got him a lot of Yellow cards

Div 2 is his level or even the BSP but no higher or he would have stayed at Millwall

It's very interesting that he has been 'released' - perhaps BD will now 'break the bank' to keep him at Sincil Bank!

Why does my mind tell me... "I doubt it!"

no harm in trying I guess, but signing him will probably mean we cannot afford two or three other signings

There's more chance of Keith Alexander (RIP) coming back from the dead and leading us to automatic promotion than Grimes coming here. He will end up at a middling League 1 side like a Carlisle or Scunthorpe or possibly a big-spending ambitious League 2 side like Crawley.

The big defenders in this (non)league would slaughter the kid.

Some of you may find this strange but I hope we don't sign him.
I believe he has served the club well, but his run of form ended and he showed nothing in the past month that merits a contract.
He gets involved in petty yellow card incidents, does not contribute greatly to the team effort, and does not get involved with the midfield enough, despite having the skill and vision to do so. His self discipline or lack of it, cost us two appearances that may have made a difference.
He has proved he can take chances, but not lately.
His 17 goals have been a tonic, but I suspect he will struggle to repeat it. Without him we would have been relegated in March, but we still got relegated.
If I remember rightly his goals dried up well before Facey got injured.

Wenger would discribe him as a 'fox in the box' type. Not for BSP and a little part of me thinks back to the pen miss at Barnet! What could have been.

Move on from him and I agree with earlier post, Scunny all the way I think.

Zero chance of us signing him if we stayed in L2, nevermind now.

Any player getting away from City at the moment will improve!

Good shout that, they have a history of signing strikers who have done well at League Two level.....regardless of what level Scunthorpe were in at the time.

Good Luck, Mr Gorsky
