Reaction to Jamie Clapham's 2010/11

Jamie Clapham was a man that you could tell had played at a higher level and he was a good player for the Imps, but ultimately Steve Tilson was not impressed and it wasn't a big surprise that he was released at the end of the season, although many City fans seemingly wanted him to be given a new deal.

There's not much you can say about Jamie really as he was rarely given a consistent run of games, but when he was given that consistent run you were able to see why he had played at a higher level. His influence on the defence when he played was excellent, especially early on in the season when the defence actually looked reasonably stable, something which seems ridiculous to say now.

He scored a brilliant free kick against Macclesfield, one of the better goals during the season and in a season where we scored some stunning goals, that is saying something.

Towards the end of the season, even though the Imps defence were looking less and less likely to keep clean sheets as games went by, he strangely wasn't getting used and his influence could have been the difference between relegation and staying in League Two for another year.

I am not overly surprised that Tilson didn't offer him a new deal, although I would have liked it if he had been offered one. Where Clapham goes now might depend on whether he intends to go into coaching or not.
