Promoted Braintree's manager leaves club

Blue Square South Champions Braintree Town have been dealt a blow ahead of next season by losing their manager. Rod Stringer had only been appointed last summer and guided Braintree to the Blue Square South title by seven points over Farnborough.

Losing just 7 of their 42 games, Braintree were comfortable Champions and they were expected to finish midtable in next year's Blue Square Premier division, however, their preparations have been rocked by the news that manager Rod Stringer has left.

A message on Braintree's website read ""It is with regret that we have to announce that we have not been able to reach an agreement with Rod Stringer for him to continue as manager at the Club for next season. As a result, Rod has stepped down from his role with the Club. The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank Rod, Keith and Bobby for all their hard work over the past twelve months. The Club will now start the process of seeking applications for a new manager with immediate effect."

Promoted sides who suddenly lose their manager in the Blue Square Premier tend to get relegated the following season, Lewes being a fine example of that when they were relegated in 2007/8.
