Imps have no shame in defeat to Nottingham Forest

Lincoln City came out of the game with Nottingham Forest with no sense of shame, that despite a 1-0 defeat. The Imps more than held their own against Forest, a team who are three divisions higher than City, and it took one of Forest's few shots on goal to actually win the game.

The early kick was delayed slightly due to Forest's coach getting stuck in traffic on the ever popular A46, but it didn't appear to affect them early on as Reid came close to netting from 40 yards, seeing his effort only just caught by the outstretched arms of Joe Anyon

After that Forest threatened little and the Imps enjoyed spells of possession, but Taylor hitting the ball wide of the target when played through one-on-one was as close as the Imps got to a goal.

Just over ten minutes before the end the portly Reid ran at City's defence, that by now had plenty of trialists in it, he pulled the ball back to Majewski and the pole smashed it into the net from the edge of the area.

Was particularly impressed with Taylor up-front...he looks like a real handful. Smith also looked decent when he came on 2nd half. Power looks like he could do a good job in midfield and Nutter looks like a far better LB than Anderson or Clapham. Perry was disappointing but probably lacks fitness after injury and Russell didn't do a lot...Gowling was excellent and we looked very solid with him and Hone at CB. Lots of positives, but it will mean nothing if we do our usual start of losing the first 3 league matches!!

Agree with you 79imp. Perry was the only 'negative' for me, didn't really offer much - but then he isn't match fit so difficult to be too harsh. Gowling looks very competent and cool at the back - if only we'd had him last season. He really bolsters our defence. Smith and Taylor up front in the second half looked handy and I would hope we start with that.

None of the triallists stood out, but they didn't get a massive chance. Baraclough looked tricky with the couple of plays he was involved in when he first came on. Not too much to say about the others really.

Difficult to judge overall on friendlies really. I imagine Forest were keen to avoid injuries with their season starting next week so probably weren't giving it 100%.

A final 'hats off' to the chap in the co-op who religiously shouted 'You Fat @#$%&' every, EVERY, time Reid got the ball. I did laugh.

Got to disagree on Perry just what we'll need in this league.
Hone has a lot to prove to me that he's the best we can get at this level.
Overall I thought the team played well, but agree with Tilson we still need a couple more players.

So shouting fat****** at least 40 times during the match made you laugh! thought it was the most boring chant I've heard at a match!

Fingers crossed Perry will deliver the goods, he probably is just lacking a bit of match fitness. We'll know for sure after the first few games of the season.

I'm a man of simple pleasures Skeggy, I'll laugh at the drop of a hat. I think I found the guys sheer persistence to be the funniest thing. He wasn't giving up!

We played very well against a very good team. I said to my mates before the match we needed to keep an eye on Majewski movement and when he gets the ball about 20yards out. He can hit a ball.

At the moment my opinion on the team is very good, good season ahead for the imps, was chating to forest fan who said we played better then Northampton did few weeks ago against them.

If only we had this set of players/team last season in league two.
