Steve Tilson sacked by Lincoln City

Lincoln City are looking for a new manager for a third time in 25 months after Steve Tilson was sacked after less than a year in charge. He and Paul Brush have left Sincil Bank after a run of just three wins since mid-March, a run that included City's relegation to the Blue Square Premier and the struggle to adapt to life at this level.
Tilson and Brush were appointed last October and their first game was a goalless draw at home to Stockport County. It took a few weeks for City to get going with three wins in league and cup against Nuneaton, Morecambe and Hereford respectively. Form quickly dropped though and despite a five match winning run in January/February, regular thrashings, especially at home, the club's form was horrendous and 9 defeats in the final 10 games of the season meant we were relegated to the Blue Square Premier.
A mass exodus of players later and Tilson's squad have struggled to adapt to life in the Blue Square Premier, currently sitting just one point above the relegation zone. Just three wins so far and increasingly poor defending had seen most fans turn against Tilson, especially after Saturday's 4-0 embarrassment against Tamworth, a game which has been described by many as the club's low point.
This is the fifth time since Keith Alexander left in 2006 that the Imps will be looking for a manager and for Grant Brown has become caretaker for the second time. His first spell as caretaker came in 2007 when John Schofield was sacked. His record then was a 1-1 home draw with Peterborough and defeat at Brentford.
Early favourite for the job is probably Steve Thompson, who admitted last night on Twitter that he and Lincoln legend Mick Harford were ready to take over at the club. The pair failed to secure the job in the round of interviews that eventually saw Tilson appointed. His CV was almost certainly on Bob Dorrian's desk within seconds of the announcement of Tilson's sacking being made.
