Imps lose yet again at Newport

Lincoln City lost yet again as our team full of glorified Sunday league players went down to a single goal at Newport County. True to form, as soon as the Imps went behind it was game over as Newport's win now moves them above City in the table.

Farman had to claim an early downward header before Laurent volleyed well over from distance. Perry’s lack of pace saw a defender catch up when he was played through one on one in what was a slow start because of the poor pitch after an overnight shower.

City had shouts for a penalty when Laurent was fouled in the box, only for the referee to wave play on, the resulting play saw Hinds booked for a foul on Rose. From the resulting free kick Yakubu prodded home the cross, although only just as the linesman had to flag it as going over the line.

The first half slowed down to the point where only John Nutter hitting a free kick straight into the wall was deemed noteworthy after the goal.

Conal Platt was replaced by Luke Medley at half time.

Christophe was booked for a foul before Power hit a free kick straight at the wall. Gowling shot well over for the Imps before City won a rare corner. Much like the vast majority of City’s set pieces, the corner was wasted before Power was booked.

City won several corners, none of which resulting in a chance. Buchanan was replaced by McAllister for the hosts before Sheridan replaced the ineffective Power for City. Sheridan had a chance within seconds as he was played through by Medley, only for his shot to be easily claimed by Potter in the Newport goal.

Miller was booked for the hosts for delaying the taking of a free kick but City failed to create another chance.
