Telegraph Article No. 4 Season 09/10

I sense the club has reached an impasse.

We have a chairman that seemingly knows the value of every potential new player, and will not change his stance regards transfer fee and/or wages, and we have a manager that cannot seem to get the best out of the current squad, and does not look like getting the chance to improve it (Because of funds, not because he's been fired!).

We also have supporters that do attend matches seemingly losing interest thanks to poor results and a lack of investment in new players, with thousands more opting to permanently stay at home until things improve (And have been for a while now!), so the finances of the club will be hit further. We are in a classic 'Catch 22' situation.

As a consequence, we are merely treading water in the Championship, doing nothing more than making up the numbers and hoping to avoid the drop into League One, and nothing looks like changing - unless a Coventry City supporter wins this weeks massive Euro Lottery jackpot, and invests in the club!

I can only see more of the same for the foreseeable future too: more supporters turning their back on the club, the better players being sold off again to plug any financial deficit (Presuming the talent hasn't been drained out of them, resulting in lower transfer fees), and Chris Coleman continuing to state that 'we need more bodies' - though if I had a pound for every time he's already said it, I would probably have enough to bring in a much needed player.

The fact we were due to bring in a real prospect in Sam Vokes (Yes, I know Wolves were slightly unreasonable in their demands, which helped any potential deal fall through), but ended up with a player not wanted by Carlisle, shows just where Coventry City are currently at. Rather obviously, I hope Gary Madine turns out to be an inspired piece of business. But, an impact player such as Vokes, rather than somebody who has apparently lost his way in League One, would probably have impressed supporters more.

I don't blame Ray Ranson for being mean as far as opening the club wallet is concerned (Though looking down the back of the sofa for a bit of loose change would be a start!), as we've tried spending more than we bring in before and it just doesn't work. But if he is going to carry on doing his Scrooge impression, the club scouts are going to have to dig out a few gold nuggets as soon as possible if the top half of the table isn't going to be out of reach before Christmas.

Apologies to those people I told I would try and be more postitive this season, but with the goals from our early season hot-shots having dried up, and the defence continuing to make basic, avoidable errors, not to mention Clingan's injury and players such as McIndoe yet to join in this season, I can only see relegation into League One for Coventry City unless something drastic changes.

Nathan Kosky reportedly stated in last weekends programme that the club are already looking towards next season, and making sure season ticket prices are as low as anybody's in the Championship - he might want to see how they compare to League One prices while he's at it.
