Another quality win, a slightly harsh defeat....

The sort of quality away win that could have supporters believing we've finally turned the corner, at a ground Coventry City had not won at for sixteen years (Ten league attempts). The opening goal came after Clingan's corner on seventeen minutes was headed on by Gunnarsson, and headed home by Platt from a few yards out - a move that looked straight off the training ground. Edwards hand-ball was ignored by the match officials with just over half-an-hour gone, denying Coventry City a penalty, before Jutkiewicz finally scored from open play .... only for nobody to notice, so no goal was given. Jutkiewicz was fouled in the area on fifty-five minutes, and stepped up to score another penalty, making the score 2-0, though minutes later Scotland pulled a goal back for Ipswich, as Coventry City made the cardinal sin of switching off after scoring. Former Coventry City loan keeper Marton Fulop joined the Ipswich attack deep into injury time in a bid to snatch an undeserved equaliser, but the Sky Blues held on for an impressive win.

This fixture finally saw the return of Craig Bellamy against a Coventry City side, which possibly helped add a few more home supporters to the attendance! And, a poor display from the man-in-the-middle, James Linnington, meant it was Bellamy and his Cardiff team-mates that took all three points. Turner was (Harshly) adjudged to have fouled City reject Peter Whittingham, who stepped up and scored from the spot on four minutes, while Gunnarsson set McSheffrey up for an equaliser minutes before half-time. Keogh was denied a penalty for the home side early in the second half, while Marlon King once again made it onto the pitch for Coventry City, but offered little. Bellamy was withdrawn with just under ten minutes left, and most Coventry supporters were pleased that he had failed to score against us - former Jay Bothroyd did manage said feat five minutes from time though. A second failed penalty appeal from the home side in injury time meant defeat for Coventry City.
