Two more wins, and up to fourth!
v Barnsley (h) W3-0
This fixture should have been over by half-time, but, due to Coventry City's wastefulness in front of goal, took slightly longer to end as a contest. McSheffrey opened the scoring after nine minutes (Following another Platt assist), before a succession of chances were squandered, leaving fears of the sucker-punch(es) suffered versus Preston - thankfully it never came! Carl Baker, a 74th minute substitute, finally opened his goal-scoring account for the home side, with a superb run through most of the Barnsley team and a smart finish. Another substitute, Clarke, also opened his account for the club in injury time, with a quality strike.
TEAM: Westwood, Keogh, Cranie, Wood, Turner, Gunnarsson (Baker 74), Clingan, Carsley, McSheffrey (Clarke 83), Jutkiewicz (O'Donovan 90), Platt. SNU: Ireland, Cameron, McPake, Doyle.
v Sheffield United (a) W1-0
The same Coventry City XI that had started the last three fixtures began this match too, and recorded another quality away victory! The game's only goal came mid-way through the first-half, after Gunnarsson's cross was knocked on by Platt, which was then headed home by Gary McSheffrey, who scored his fourth goal of the season. A long-distance Clingan free-kick tested Simonsen in the SU goal early in the second half, while Marlon King finally made it onto the pitch for Coventry City in an away fixture. Sheffield United did hit the woodwork three times during this match, though Coventry City were good value for the win that took them up to fourth place in the table. Fourth? Bloody hell!
TEAM: Westwood, Keogh, Cranie, Wood, Turner, Gunnarsson (Baker 69), Clingan, Carsley, McSheffrey (Clarke 76), Jutkiewicz (King 72), Platt. SNU: Ireland, Cameron, McPake, Doyle.
