City Through In Dire Cup Tie

Without three, possibly four first choice midfielder players, Coventry City struggled to cup victory over League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge.

The injured Fleck and Thomas, plus Barton, on international duty, and the as of yet unsigned Jennings, were all missed, as Ball and McDonald were starved of service, and Coventry City looked fairly clueless throughout.

The game's only goal came courtesy of a dubiously awarded Kevin Kilbane penalty two minutes from time, and saved the 1,900+ crowd the trauma of having to suffer a further half-an-hours extra-time, or even penalties - most of which would probably have ended up going out of the stadium.

Coventry City's reward for scraping through was a second round home tie against neighbours Birmingham City.

TEAM: Murphy, Clarke, Hussey, Wood, Brown, Kilbane, Baker, Daniels, McSheffrey (Elliott 69), McDonald, Ball (O'Donovan 84). SNU: Dunn, Malaga, Edjenguele, Garner, Jeffers.
