Coventry Struggle To Victory In The JPT

A record low crowd for a match at the Ricoh Arena watched Coventry City struggle to a penalty shoot-out victory over Burton Albion.
Burton were by far the better side in a truly dismal first half, as eleven strangers wearing the Coventry City badge on their shirts gave the sort of performance that would suggest they had never met before, and never want to see each other again. Absolute rubbish.
As if needed underlining that nobody at the club has a clue what they are doing, Richard Shaw was forced to cross two substitutes off his team sheet, having named seven when only five are allowed in the prestigious Johnstones Paint Trophy.
Having suffered 90 minutes of what would loosely be called football, some supporters left the ground rather than watch the penalties being taken. They missed the only entertainment of the evening.
Holness was the first to miss (For Burton) with the scores at 9-9, then Wood missed the chance to be the hero for Coventry City. Burton keeper Lyness also missed, and it was down to Joe Murphy to be the hero, beating Lyness to take Coventry City through 10-9.
Coventry City are away to York in the second round of the JPT, with the tie to be played the week beginning October 8th.
