Coventry Telegraph Article 2 Season 2012/13

Mark Robins is winning me over already! A new coach brought in straight away, four loan signings within a week, and, most importantly, a win! I look forward to seeing what he does next.

Added to that, his press conferences are no-nonsense, refreshingly honest affairs, and he seemingly sees the same game as most supporters do too! Last Saturday’s match really was garbage.

I was surprised Robins was given the job ahead of Shaw though, with those players that publicly backed the City ‘legend’ – and there were a few of them – giving some whole-hearted, committed displays to endorse his application. Not!

The most confusing thing about our dismal start to the season is, how can a team with a goalkeeper, two defenders and a defensive midfielder, on the coaching staff, be so poor at the back?

While a fair few fans were happy with the appointment of Mark Robins, I wonder exactly who has to come in to the club, whether that be players, manager, or owners, before people stop finding reasons not to pay the Ricoh (And Highfield Road previous to that) a visit.

So far people have not come back because Richardson, McGinnity, Robinson, or SISU were running the club, or Coleman, Bothroyd, and Thorn were managing, or were not going to come back if Shaw, Ince or Brown got the job.

And to those that continue to criticise our squad, what calibre of players would you expect us to sign in Division Three? We’re just not that big a draw anymore. Sammy Clingan would seemingly rather do nothing than play for us again!

Most of the squad do have Premiership or Championship experience. Bizarrely, the same people that complain we’ve signed players that have seen better days are the same people that were complaining last season that the side lacked experience!

Should the current squad bother to join in on matchdays, I still don’t think there are many in the division better on paper than ours. Some are capable of playing at a higher level – if they want to.

If our ‘Cup Final’ versus Arsenal was really was being used a shop window by certain players who want to leave the club around Christmas time, I’m guessing most will still be wearing Coventry City colours for the foreseeable future after the 6-1 hammering!
