Normal Service Is Resumed....

According to some (Possibly official stat’s, possibly made up), had Coventry City won this game, this would have been the first time in around ten years they had won four games back-to-back. A dismal record (If true) and surely the worst of any side in the top four divisions?*

With the news that if the rent isn’t paid by 12.30 each Friday matches would not go ahead on Saturday’s, I couldn’t help wondering if SISU should have with-held it for this fixture. Hindsight is a wonderful thing….

Carl Baker had given the home side cause for optimism, giving Coventry City the lead from a free-kick on 35 minutes, but a soft penalty (Or not a penalty, depending on your opinion) allowed the visitors an equaliser on 41 minutes.

A truly dismal second half display, including some shocking defending to allow Clarke to score a second goal (Quite why Murphy took up the position he did to try and stop the goal only he knows, but I would suggest somebody buys him a compass for Christmas), allowed the visitors to leave the Ricoh with all three points.

There was a brief attempt at stealing a point back late on, but some poor finishing, and decent goal-keeping, saw the good work that was beating Crawley undone by losing to a side that, before beating Walsall convincingly only days before, had drawn two and lost six of their last eight games.

The referee took a fair amount of criticism for his sub-standard officiating, as did his assistants, but the real blame has to lay with the players, who made a mockery of comments that McGoldrick (Who had an off-day compared to his normal high standards) isn’t a one-man team.

*Ignore first paragraph if not an actual statistic….

TEAM: Murphy, Christie, Clarke, Wood, Edjenguele, Baker, Fleck (Moussa 59), Jennings, Bailey (O'Donovan 86), McGoldrick, McDonald (Ball 55). SNU: Dunn, Cameron, Reckord, Barton.
