Coventry City Lose At Home .... Normal Service Is Resumed?

If yesterday's display as good as Coventry City can manage, you have to wonder if it was worth all the bother getting them 'home'.

It all started so well too (Off-the-pitch), after bumping into some quality people that I've not seen for a while after the club moved to Sixfields (Insert compulsory '35 miles from Coventry' line here).

Then the match kicked off .... I'm guessing not every Coventry City player heard the whistle go?

Some said Preston were the best team CCFC have faced so far this season. The reality is they didn't have to get out of second gear. Nuneaton Town would have put three past us on this display, and they're rubbish (Except for their keeper, who is a possible future star).

There was, to show some-things never change, a garbage referee officiating, booking CCFC for minimal contact, while letting PNE off the hook for pole-axing. His display did nothing to affect the result though.

PNE were, as they always seem to do when they visit us, massively guilty of time-wasting, but the reality is them slowing the game for long periods merely stopped CCFC mis-placing more passes, or trying the sort of fancy flicks teams 4 or 5-0 up usually try.

One PNE player was eventually booked, for time-wasting while taking a throw-in, though the same player was then allowed to steal ten yards from the afore-mentioned throw without further punishment....

Their keeper was the afternoon panto villain, whinging like a brat if anybody got within five yards of him. On the odd occasion the ball went into the PNE area, he did look slightly dodgy, though we never did get to find out how poor he really was. Home fans could not decide if we managed no shots or half-a-shot. Whichever, it wasn't good enough.

Those that have seen more games than me this season are not convinced by the keeper (And so it seems, are some of the defenders), Allsop, with said youngster producing another less than convincing display.

In the casino afterwards, somebody mentioned that Paddy Kenny is a free agent. I've heard worse suggestions.

Towards the end of this waste of an afternoon, somebody near me in the crowd stated: 'if Steven Pressley can find any positives in that he is a liar'. I can't help but agree.

The influential Fleck was, it was revealed towards the end of the week, carrying a groin strain, and possibly should have carried it off pitch too. This defeat was not his fault though, as he did attempt to get things going (As did O'Brien, who played one absolute quality ball to Jackson, who completely fluffed his chance).

Coventry City clearly cannot cope without Reda Johnson. His recent stupid sending off is proving costly. I hope he thinks before he does something that stupid again.

The portly figure of Eric Bristow was in the casino after the game. I can't help think despite his age, and weight, he would still have been more mobile than some of players on the day.

When the highlight of afternoon is finding a 'Ricoh' pen outside, you know you've had a poor day out. I would say where I found it, but, if the rest of the day was anything to go by, somebody would probably claim it back....

Finally, a friend of mine is supposed to be buying a season ticket on Monday. My guess is he might have a re-think if he hears about today.
