Leeds got through an incredibly busy transfer window with a host of new faces in the squad, and the departure of a few players deemed surplus to requirements. On the whole, it has been a great couple of months for the club, with some real quality added to the squad.
Key signings for me have been Kasper Schmichel, who has already justified his signing after a handful of games. Lloyd Sam has surprised on or two people with his form, but looks a great buy, whilst Ross McCormack, signed last week could be a massive acquisition. Others that could do well are Billy Paynter, who is working his way to fitness, Alex Bruce who has had little chance yet, Ramon Nunez, who we know little about (but looks great on YouTube), and Adam Clayton, who has struggled a bit so far, but has only had the odd 10 minutes to play.It was also a relief to get players out – a lot of the younger ones have gone to get experience in the lower leagues, whilst Kandol and Sheehan have been paid off. Lubo is on loan at Carlise for a few months, which only means only Andy Robinson is left of the players Grayson wanted to offload – wouldn’t be a surprise to see him go in the next few months as an ‘emergency loan’. We are still looking for a defensive midfielder, but an out of contract player is due to start a trial with us today (Faye?), so there is still an option there. only the fact that there are no high profile signings but im afraid this is the SG way and any negative feelings will be quashed by the results this term , IMO.
its clear, regardless of figures mentioned, that SG will not spend for the sake of it and this approach has to be the way forward for the club in the current climate.
some awesome pieces of business (ross for £350k, sam/kasper free) have to be applauded.
as has been highlighted previously we have basically signed a brand new starting 11. this is what many of us felt we needed to compete in this league, but admit it, nobody actually believed it would happen.

long may it continue as just compare the squad of today (quality and in particular age/potential-wise) to the blackwell days............ i personally feel better already

Kasper signing is especially genius and totally unexpected, he will be the keeper of the season imho.
Ross McCorrmack also should get a mention for 350k as a very great bit of negotiating by the SG/KB team

I feel that the club have done extremely well in this window. One would find it hard to be critical of the number of players recruited - especially when considering the extent of the outlay.
Personally, I would have loved to have seen a couple of marquee signings - players that would leave even the biggest doubter with egg on his face. Yet, as we all know and understand, this is not Simon's - and certainly not Mr Bates "modus operandi".
However, I am generally pleased that we have acquired the quantity of new recruits I believed were necessary to make an impact at this level, and for reasons of financial dexterity and successful wheeler dealing, I believe that SG has done a very good job with the finances made available to him.
Also, we may yet be pleasantly surprised by potential additions arriving on loan from numerically challenged Premier league clubs.
If they all secure a quick understanding,it could be an interesting season!
