Transfer window Roundup
By Andy Baggott
February 1 2011
Leeds were busy in the transfer window - but not in the way some of the fans wanted. Despite a centre half and defensive midfielder wanted - it was players out that casued all the activity.
Alan Martin, Jason Crowe and Tom Elliott were released, Neill Collins sold, and Feddie Bessone loaned to Charlton. With the recent releases of Lubo Michalik, Andy Hughes and Andy Robinson, as well as a smattering of youth players, it's fair to say a lot of the dead wood has been moved on. Although the toal players released is around 10, and incomings just Andy O Brien and McCartney, it was clear that the squad was previously top heavy.
To me, it looks like we've cleared the decks, and are much leaner. I would expect a loan move or two to happen before Februarys out, to go alongside our one loan in on deadline day (Man City reserve goalkepper Gonzalez).
Various names were banded about yesterday, but non came to fruition - manager Simon Grayson (rightly in my opinion) refusing to panic and get in quantity over quality, and instead keeping his powder dry for the right opportunity.

That said, we aint in a bad position & have good players in reserve (McCormack/Paynter) etc
I understand some may have wanted a big signing/loan or 2 but as far as I'm concerned, I don't see reason to panic right now.

As far as the players out are concerned, i think its all great business.
As far as players in are concerned, and taking the opportunity to throw down the gauntlet to the opposition and show them we mean business I think we've failed.
Having come out and said he needed to strengthen midfield and also that he expected some new faces coming in, i think SG has managed the fans expectations naively. True he probably doesnt care what the fans think but then when he gets pasted by the media and the fans with questions about it he has only himself to blame.
In all honesty he probably tried to bring in two or three players yesterday, and i doubt any of them were permanent deals, but for whatever reason he failed. I think our main rivals in the CCC will be pleased with that.
No doubt Thom K can shed more light on it.
Throw enough sh-it at the wall and some of it will stick,
