Leeds Reserves win - match report

Leeds won a lively encounter 2-1 last night. A very young side had their backs to the wall for much of the game, but held on for victory

An eventful match saw Leeds run out 2-1 winners. Blackburn had most of the early play, with young keeper Carson pulling off some good saves. Both teams played a large part of the game with 10 men, 15 year old Simon Walton sent off for Leeds for a professional foul. Leeds though took the lead, Simon Johnson forcing home after the keeper saved. Blackburn continued to attack, and went close when hitting the bar. The home side has Italian Dino Baggio making his first appearance, and he looked a good player. Just before the break, Rovers equalised, and it was 1-1 at half time. In the second half it was more of the same, the young Leeds side, who only had Domi over the age of 20, defended well, and scored a tremendous winner. Jamie Winter picked up the ball at the half way line. No one closed him down, and he continued to around 30 yards out, before unleashing a powerful drive into the top corner. A brilliant goal from the youngster, and a worthy match winner. Blackburn weren’t finished though, and when Carson was booked for a foul in the area, it looked like the game would end level, but the penalty hit the woodwork. Carson was called upon again later to tip away another shot as United held on. Best Leeds player was Scott Carson, and Domi had a good run out.
