Leeds v Arsenal - reflection

The thing that stays longest in the memory after the thumping from Arsenal, was without doubt, the fantastic response of the crowd.

With the team 4-0 down, Elland Road erupted into a cauldron of noise, and continued to be so for the remainder of the game. It clearly lifted the players, and though the Gunners took their foot off the gas, we had a 25 minute spell, where we produced some excellent football. Arsenal though, when playing like this are a joy to watch, and in Henry, they posses a genuine world class player. Out of the big 3, I hope they can go on to win the title this year. For us, Olembe looks class, Milner did well, and Lennon showed a little glimpse of what he is all about. ‘Red October’ is now behind us, and we can start looking at some critical matches, that will shape our season, starting with the visit to Portsmouth on Saturday.

So what now for Mark Viduka? The big Aussie rolled in late for training on Friday, and was late again for the team meeting before the game. Peter Reid took the very brave, but correct decision to drop him. The fact that the Duke stormed out of the ground without supporting the team shows where his loyalties lie. His recent performances (no goals in over 2 months), are not good enough. It’s a shame, because Vidukes is without doubt a quality player, and on form, could almost drag us out of this mess on his own. A parting of the ways seems inevitable once the transfer window opens in January….
