Reading 1 Leeds 1 - report

Leeds gained a hard earned point against 2nd in the table Reading last night, and came close to snatching all three points right at the end.

Leeds got off to a dream start. Ormerods cross from the right picked up a deflection and looped up in the air. Simon Walton found himself unmarked, 6 yards out, and headed down to the the keepers right to get his first goal for the club. With goals hard to come by, this should have lifted Leeds, and allowed them to take the game by the scruff of the neck. However, it was Reading who looked the sharper for the remainder of the half, and despite a couple of near misses from Ricketts and Ormerod, should have had a few goals to show for their dominance. They got one just before the break – Sullivan pushing the ball on to the post, only got Owusu to score the rebound from a couple of yards.

The second half was a much closer affair, and it was Leeds who finished the stronger. The introduction of Deane helped matters, and it was the big forward who almost snatched a win at the end, but his header was well saved. A draw was about t a fair result, and it will be Kevin Blackwell who came away the happier of the two managers…
