Not for the first time this season, Leeds made heavy work of a game they should have had tied up by half time. Despite dominating, Leeds were left hanging on for the last 10 minutes, as Burnley, who by then were playing with ten men, woke from their slumber, and almost snatched an equaliser.

Despite dominating most of the game, Leeds were left hanging on for the last ten minutes, as Burnley, who by then were playing with ten men, woke from their slumber, and almost snatched an equaliser. Leeds started the game well, and Healey went close on a couple of occasions early on. Lennon was causing all sorts of problems down the right, and it almost led to the opening goal – his cross been turned home by Healey, who was just offside. Burnley rarely threatened, but also closed down the space for Leeds, and goalmouth action was few and far between. In the second half, it was Leeds who got the breakthrough. Lennon twisted and turned down the right, and put in a perfect cross, and arriving 6 yards out was Gylfi Einarsson, who headed home for his first Leeds goal. It was no more than Leeds deserved, and the visitors got a further boost shortly afterwards when Burnley were reduced to 10 men. Veteran Frank Sinclair, who had already been booked, lashed out at Einarsson, and received his second yellow. It was a stupid kick, and on another day would have been a straight red. However, far from demoralising the home side, it had the opposite affect, as Burney came at Leeds all guns blazing. With ten minutes to go, Burnley had a great chance to level. Indecision by Clarke Carlisle at the back let in Moore. Carlisle realised his mistake too late, and dragged back the forward for a nailed on penalty. Moore took the kick, but Sullivan plunged to his left to save the shot. Burnley stll came, and Sullivan showed why he has received a recall to the Scotland squad with a couple of fine saves. Leeds held on though, and took another 3 points back across the Pennines.
