Sheff Weds 1 Leeds 0 - report

Leeds produced a hugely disappointing display in last nights Yorkshire derby. Facing a Sheffied Wednesday side without a win all season, Blackwells men failed to conjur up a real chance in 90 minutes.

Blackwell made several changes. Sullivan came in to replace Bennett, whilst the under fire Harding was rested in favour of Crainey. Jonathon Douglas got the nod over Frazer Richardson in right midfield, whilst Rob Hulse, who was struggling with a virus, dropped to the bench to allow Richard Creswell his first start. The first half was all Wednesday, with Eagles producing good ammunition from the flank, and it was the on loan Man U player who got the early breakthrough – his free kick missing everyone and nestling in the far corner on 8 minutes. This failed to spark any life in Leeds though, as the home side dominated – only a good save from Sullivan stopped the lead doubling. The second half was much more even. Leeds had plenty of play, but failed to produce any chances. Derry tried hard in midfield, and was one of the few players to emerge with any credit, but he was fighting a losing battle alone. Sheffield held on with ease in the end, and deserved their win. Leeds headed home with some major problems. After so many chances created against Brighton at the weekend, the lack of any last night is a worry. Blackwell, whilst not panicing, knows he needs a good result this weekend to stop us falling too far away from the promotion chasing pack.
