Plymouth 0 Leeds 3 - report

Leeds completed a superb festive period by taking their points total to a perfect 12 from 12 after beating Plymouth last night..

The first half started quietly, with Plymouth looking the most threatening, especially down the right. However, they didn’t make any clear cut chances, and Leeds slowly got a grip of the game. Cresswell went close with a flick, whilst lake’s deflected shot was even closer. The half ended 0-0, but Leeds seemed to be getting to grips with it.
The second half saw a different Leeds – a team that, for possibly the first time this season, showed that they are to be taken seriously, as they destroyed Plymouth. Blake set up Miller, who’s shot was well saved, and from the resulting corner, Lewis fired across the goal, where Cresswell dipped his head to nod home. The second wasn’t long in coming – Eddie Lewis, who was causing all sorts of problems, squared the ball, and the impressive Blake rifled home. It was all Leeds now, Cresswell went close again, as did Kilgallon. Eventually the third came, Miller was tripped in the box, and substitute Hulse fired home the spot kick.
There were strong performances all round. Kelly is having a good season, and looked comfortable all game, Butler was strong, and Kilgallon is going from strength to strength. Crainey struggled early doors, but improved no end. In the middle of the park Derry did a superb job breaking up attacks, Miller was a class above, whilst Douglas had his strongest game yet for Leeds getting from box to box. Up front, Cresswell always looked dangerous and Blake’s trickery was too much for Plymouth to handle.
A superb start to the New Year, as Leeds try and close the gap to second place.
