Portsmouth after Ipswich striker

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has admitted his interest in Ipswich's out of favour striker Marcus Stewart.

Stewart is out of favour at Portman Road with Marcus Bent and youngster Darren Bent ahead of him in the pecking order.

Redkanpp is a big fan of Stewart and is hopefull of bringing him to Fratton Park. "I'd like another striker and Marcus Stewart would be perfect. He wouldn't cost a fortune and would take us where we want to go", Redkanpp said to the clubs website.

He's not in their team at the moment - and Ipswich would like to reduce their wage bill." Earlier in the week Herman Hreidarsson rejected a move to West Brom and it was expected for Matt Holland to be sold in the next few weeks but the sale of Stewart could mean that the club can afford to keep Holland.

Redknapp continued, "I'm sure they wouldn't want a massive amount - there's no market at the moment for tranfer fees, so we'll have to see how it develops."

It is thought that Ipswich would want a figure around £1million for Stewart.
