Grimsby give trial to Pollock

Grimsby have handed a trial to midfielder Jamie Pollock.

The 28-year-old is unattachted at the moment having left his previous club, Crystal Palace, in the summer.

Grimsby player-boss Paul Groves is trying to strengthen his weakened squad and goes into the Bank Holiday games against Bradford and Portmsouth with midfielders Alan Pouton and Stacy Coldicott likely to be missing. Darren Barnard is also unlikely to play 90 minutes in both games having travelled to Croatia last night with the Welsh squad and played the full game. That leaves the Mariners with just Stuart Campbell, Terry Cooke and rookie Chris Bolder across the midfield.

Over his career Pollock has been sold for a total of £3,600,000 but is now available for free and with the financial crisis in football any wage demands will have to be low.

The news comes on the same day that Groves completed the signing of Robert Taylor.
