Millwall loan Saints striker

Millwall have loaned striker Kevin Davies from Southampton in a month long deal.

Millwall boss Mark McGhee has moved to kick-start The Lions disappointing start to the season, of which Steven Reid and Richard Sadlier have missed through injury. The injury to Sadlier has left Millwall with Neil Harris, Steve Clardige and youngster Ben May to fight it out for the strikers roles.

Davies is out of favour at St Mary's with Southampton boss Gordon Strachan who has the likes of James Beatie and Marian Pahars contesting for the front places.

McGhee told the clubs official site what he hopes Davies can bring to his team. He offers us something different from Neil Harris and Steve Claridge and is keen to prove himself again after his career had taken a bit of a backward step.

"We're grateful to Gordon Strachan at Southampton for allowing Kevin to come to us and making it possible for us to take him."

Davies is likely to go straight into tomorrow's game, against Southampton's rivals Portsmouth.

"Kevin is sure to face a bit of a hostile reception at Portsmouth on Saturday, given that they are the main rivals of Southampton, but it's up to the rest of us to support him and I'm sure he will be determined to make an impact."
