Stoke City have signed Birmingham striker Tommy Mooney on a three-month loan.

Stoke had hoped that Chris Greenacre would fire the goals in for them this season but the ex-Mansfield man has been sidelined with injury.

Boss Steve Cotterill has moved to bring Mooney to the Brittania Stadium to boost his front line. Mooney, 31, is down the pecking order at St Andrews with Clinton Morrison, Stern John and Geoff Horsefield all ahead of him, the ex-Watford man has made just one apperance, as a substitute, so far this season.

Cotterill is cleary delighted at his loan signing and hinted that he may try to secure a permanent deal if the loan goes well. "We are delighted to get him. It gives us the lift we need and strengthens our attack.

"He is a hard-working player and he is certainly the type of player I would like to bring to the club on a permanent basis."
