Final straight is in sight

This season's relegation battle is one of the most intense for years. With Crewe, Barnsley, Grimsby, Rotherham, Walsall and Sheff Wednesday all scrapping for their lives.

It's most likley that this will go to the final day (next Sunday) but it could also be settled this afternoon.

If Barnsley lose to Norwich and Crewe lose to Notts Forest, both will be down providing Grimsby beat Burnley and Walsall defeat Sheff Utd.

However the chances of all 4 results ending that way are slim. To add another twist in the tail Rotherham travel to Crewe on the final day.

Also heating up is the promotion race, this is less complicated though. West Brom and Wolves are fighting for the 2nd Automatic spot behind Man City and if West Brom win both their games against Bradford and Crystal Palace they go up regardless of how Wolves do. No-one can catch the Black County duo so one of them will occupy the 1st play-off berth. As it stands at the minute the other 3 places are occupied by Millwall (74), Burnley and Birmingahm (both on 72). Below them are Preston and Norwich on 69 points. Again this is the case of if Milwall, Burnley and Birmingham win their respective games no-one can catch them.

Milwall have only 1 game to go against Grimsby. Burnley play Grimsby and Coventry. Birmingham face Rotherham and Sheff Utd. Norwich have the 'easier' games in reflection of the league table, facing Barnsley and Stockport but no games are easy in this division. Whilst Preston face Palace and Notts Forest.

As you can see the promotion games could have a huge effect on the relegation games.
