Two first half goals for the Clarets condemed The Rams to a deserved 2-0 defeat at Turf Moor.
2-0 Att: 15,063 Burnley enjoyed a comfortable triumph over
Derby at Turf Moor. Ian Moore opened the scoring in the first
half before Gareth Taylor sealed the victory with a trademark header. The maximum points for Burnley lifts them
into the top half of the table and serves as a timely tonic ahead of Wednesday's
FA Cup fifth-round replay with Fulham, which is at home. Burnley didn't take long to go ahead when
a flick-on from Taylor found Alan Moore, whose shot was parried by Derby
goalkeeper Lee Grant into the path of Ian Moore, who had the simple task of
slotting the ball into an unguarded net. The lead was doubled when Tony Grant
capitalised on a mistake by Luciano Zavagno to pick out Taylor who headed the
ball home, and despite the two goal deficit, Derby were unfortunate not to claw
a goal back when Paul Cook cleared Zavagno's effort off the line 10 minutes
before the interval and they came out in the second half and played well and
could have got a goal back through Adam Bolder, who forced the Burnley
goalkeeper into a smart save with a fierce half-volley, but the home side stayed
firm and won the game.
